Johannes Josephus Aarts. Part 2A : Monsters, myth & visions of the apocolypse..

In Arte’s output there are two broad stages/areas of subject matter, in the first (covered in Part 1) he dwelt on everyday scenes of ordinary rural working people; farmworkers, dykeworkers & their woman folk; tramps, beggars and invalids. This post (Part 2), covers the period between 1920 and 1930) when Arte began to produce more visionary and apocalyptic work which featured known mythical themes and a self created monster character.
