Both the South Island Stout-legged Wren or Yaldwyn’s Wren and the Dieffenbach’s Rail or Chatham Islands Buff-banded Rail are now extinct.
The Gallirallus dieffenbachii skull was found & collected on 15 February 1992 from “Te Ana a Moe Cave” a in limestone cliff face on the west shore of Te Whanga Lagoon, Chatham Island (Sample 153/92), New Zealand. Te Papa.
