Follower of 伊藤 若冲 Itō Jakuchū
Jakuchū began life as a Tokyo greengrocer, became an eccentric painter then a Zen Buddhist koji. In his twilight years, influential and revered, Jakuchū retired to a Zen temple with a group of followers. These followers were still evolving his style 100 years after he died. One of these anonymous artists in particular did a fantastic job in creating this unique family of images. They are a wonderful, one off fusion of old and the new; remixing Jakuchū’s old school mid-Edo Period aesthetic with that of the more modern, Meiji.
